Hello, I’m Char…
…the face behind Dinky Dollies.
I’ve been painting and creating things my whole life, and Art was always my favourite school subject. Among some of my favourite childhood memories are summer afternoons spent watercolour painting at a table on my granny’s patio, being fed her (now somewhat famous) chicken sandwiches and fresh melon! We were always painting and making things. In fact, we made clothespin dolls more than once, tying scraps of ribbon and fabric for their clothes and painting on their tiny faces. We made a bride and groom set and this is where the idea for Dinky Dollies evolved from - Back in 2013 when I was planning my wedding, I actually bought some wooden clothespins and intended to recreate these dolls as our wedding cake toppers! I made just about everything for our wedding decor by hand, and the clothespin cake toppers never came to fruition… but I still had the clothespins tucked away with my crafting supplies…
Dinky Dollies sells hand-painted wooden peg dolls, for imaginative play, gifts and keepsakes for children and adults alike.
Everything is designed and hand-painted by me here in Guernsey, in evenings and weekends around family life with two small children.
All of my designs use non-toxic paints and varnishes and the majority of the dolls are large enough so as to be safe for little ones to play with - Peg dolls make great additions to dollhouses and sensory play tables or to accompany a favourite storybook. My own children have a rapidly growing collection - with every new favourite character discovery, a new peg doll is requested!
I also take custom orders (via Instagram/Facebook), which can be anything from adding names or initials to existing designs to fully custom family portrait sets, personalised sea swimmers, themed character dolls, birthday and wedding cake toppers to name just a few!
Dinky Dollies is very much in its infancy, but I have so many ideas for the future. I can’t help but constantly be thinking of different designs for dolls and am always keen to try a new craft so how this small business might evolve is yet to be seen!
